RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

I. Current research projects, cooperating with colleagues in Stanford University, University of Florida, Indiana University, University of Michigan, and several research institutes in China:

  1. Study the fossil angiosperms of the Early Cretaceous (about 135 million year old), western Liaoning Province, China.
  2. Study early angiosperm specimens of the Later Jurassic, from China.
  3. Study some angiosperm-like specimens of the Middle Jurassic, from Liaoning Province, China.
  4. Tracking the origin of angiosperms through investigating fossil molecule oleanane in fossil plants or petroleum samples from Middle Jurassic and Upper Triassic, northwestern China.
  5. Further investigation of fossil molecule oleanane in gigantopterids from China.
  6. Anatomical study of reproductive organs of gigantopterids.
  7. Leaf architectures of Gigantopteridales and their significance
  8. Gigantopterid biome
  9. Study of permineralized cycad plants from Permian, China.

II. Research at Indiana University Southeast (1996-2000)

1. Anatomy and morphology of Gigantopteridales
2. Cladistic analysis of Gigantopterids
3. Molecular fossil record of oleanane from Gigantopteridales of China
4. Investigation of oleanane in living anthophyte plants
5. Study of a permineralized cycad plant from Permian of China.

III. Graduate Research at the Ohio State University from 1992 to 1996:

1. Field trip for collecting fossil plants in Guizhou Province, China
2. Department Chairman's Assistant in organizing administrative data
3. Dissertation Research

IV. Research at China University of Mining and Technology from 1985 to 1990:

    1. Wrote the General Introduction in the "Summary of Coal-Field Geologic Rules of China", a video program edited by B. Tian et al., a project funded by the Coal Ministry of China, 1988.
    2. Participated in "Analysis of Sedimentary Coalification Environment of Upper Permian in Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan Provinces," a project funded by the Coal Ministry of China, 1986-87.
    3. Head of field team for an investigation, "Research on Carboniferous Biostratigraphy in Hunan Province," a project funded by the Coal Ministry of China, 1985-86.
