A PROMISE TO FULFILL
MINIMUM EXPECTATIONS
(Students are asked to sign a hardcopy version of this at the beginning of the course)
(The background of the online version is red to symbolize your signing this in BLOOD!)

I understand that in order to fully benefit from the class presentations and to receive the benefits of curves on grades in this course I need to give the following minimum effort during the semester. Therefore I promise to:

  1. Stay current, which means:
    1. (if you are enrolled in an oncampus section) attend every class, if possible.
    2. (if you are enrolled in a Web based section)  access the online learning material on the scheduled date.
  2. Come to class (or online study session) prepared, which for Tony's class means:
    1. to have read (not necessarily "studied") the text/Web material to be covered during the class presentation.
    2. to have worked through the current Learning Module (read, written (in the margins of a printed version) text for the FIBs, and drafted answers to the SAQs/TPQs.)
  3. Turn in my assignments on time, even if they are incomplete.
  4. To correct every mistake as soon as it is detected and, when required, resubmit my corrections on schedule.
  5. Spend a minimum of two hours studying outside class, every week, for every hour of class time (i.e. a minimum of six hours for this three credit course).
I realize that Tony understands that there may be exceptional circumstances when it will be impossible or impractical to do the above for a particular class; in such circumstances the preceding promise is not binding. However, I will make a sincere effort, all semester long, not to break this promise. I also understand that if there is evidence that I have not done the above, I will not be eligible for the curves that may be added to grades during the semester.

Furthermore, I believe that these minimum expectations of full-time University students are reasonable. I realize that turning in the assignments on time simply facilitates quick feedback to me about material I do not understand or about which I am confused; if Tony and I know these problems, we can correct them. I also believe that a minimum of two hours study for each class hour (for a typical 15 credit load this is only 45 hours a week and only 10 hours more than Junior High School students attend class!) is reasonable for a full-time student.
