COSC 330 LAB 4
DEVELOPING A PROTOTYPE OF YOUR COURSE PROJECT

This lab is intended have you select a subject on which to develop the Web site for your course project.  You should first determine what Web development subject you would like to study independently and then develop a tentative prototype of the Web site with which to present that project.   Specifically the goals of this lab are to:

  1. determine the subject of your course project  (I guess it would be possible to completely change this later, but it would not be advisable!)
  2. draft a prototype of the Web site presentation of your project  (This of course can, an perhaps should, be changed as the course progresses.)
PRELIMINARY
  1. Decide on which authoring tool you will utilize to develop your prototype.  Of course you could use any combination, e.g. you could jump start you development by using FrontPage templates and/or themes and switching to Dreamweaver for the actually development.
  2. Decide on the subject of your course project, within the constraints of the COSC 330 PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS.  If you are unsure, search the Web on the subjects suggested in the Project Specifications.
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Decide on a tentative organization for your Web site and format/theme for the appearance of its Web pages.  You may want to use one of the predefined themes in FrontPage and/or one or more of the page templates in that authoring tool.  Also keep in mind that there is noting final in your prototype.  You can completely start over when you learn development techniques later in the course, but you should have covered enough to be able to begin your design.
  2. Develop a prototype Web for your project.
    1. Create a main page, project330.htm, that is the entry point and hub of your project Web.  Place a link on link on main330.htm to project330.htm.
    2. Place links to all the pages of your project draft on the project main page, project330.htm.
  3. Write proposal for your project Web and publish it as lab330-4.htm.

ASSIGNMENT:

  1. Publish a Web page, lab330-4.htm, that contains the following.
    1. A clear statement of what your proposed project will be
    2. An explanation of why you chose the project subject, in particular how it will complement the subject of this course, Web development.
    3. a tentative architecture of the site organization, e.g. a set of prototype pages with minimal details, or at least a "site map" representing the various pages of your planned site with the proposed links between them.
  2. Publish a prototype Web, with a consistent theme (not necessarily a FrontPage theme) with drafts of the pages you envision as part of your project.
  3. Place links to lab330-4.htm  and project330.htm on main330.htm.
  4. CONTINUATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT: On project330.htm you should maintain a chronology of the development of your projectThis should include concise statements (at LEAST one per week) explaining  what you did on your project for that week.  (You should update this every week for the remainder of the course.)  I would suggest that you update this more frequently than once a week, but if you do not have a weekly update, I will deduct from your project grade.
