rural areas are now irreversible due

economies. The proportion of the

|
world’s
population living in urban settlements is

|
|
growing at a
rapid rate, and the world's economic,
|
|
|
social, cultural,
and political processes are
|
|
|
increasing being
played out within and between the
|
|
|
world’s system of
cities and towns.
